    Let me start by saying, if I can't find it here I will drag myself to the local chain grocery store. I'll be sad but I won't be mad.

    This store has fabulous looking pastries and cakes, all made in-house.  I'm not a sweets person so I just "appreciate" as I walk by the display case.  I will admit, they are wearing me down.  I'm sure my wife and I will engage in a full-on sugar/honey fest some rainy Saturday afternoon.

    There is a good dried and sundry section that is filled with very fairly priced, quality items.  Cold-pressed olive oil; not a problem. Pomace or grapeseed oil; it's there too.  Oh look, semolina flour!! The selection of pickled items is impressive.  I get all of my canned pomodoro tomatoes and tomato paste there for cheap, cheap, cheap.

    All good and lots of fun, but, the reason I return again and again are the butcher and deli sections.  Plump chickens and chicken breasts, whole and skillfully trimmed.  Lamb shanks. Beef roulade.  A single package medley of veal bones and meat that will be a whole meal with delicate sauce.  Liver.  Pork Chops.  Roasts.  Hearts & Gizzards.  Shanks.  Nicely marbled steaks.  Again. cheap, cheap, cheap!!
    The deli has a limited but well thought out selection of meats, cheeses and olives.  The pita and loaves of bread are always very fresh and, once again, cheap, cheap, cheap.

    The shop appears to run by the entire family.  You will find the staff to amicable but gruff.  They are there to take care of business not babysit a bunch of foodie tourists.

    The quality is very good and the prices are very fair.  It's definitely worth a visit.

    I used to really like coming here for their deli meat but after my recent visit I will never be back. I stood in line waiting to be served, after they served one patron that arrived after me I shrugged it off. But when the cashier asked who was next in line (which was me), I walked up and she told me I was not next. I told her you already served one person who arrived after me and I also was in line before this other customer that she was attempting to serve. She asked the customer if he was in line before or after me which at this point I just told her, no problem I will take my business else wear.  It wasn't so busy that she could have not known who was next. When I got in line there was one person ahead of me and they let 2 other people who arrived after me to get served. I was a loyal customer up until this point, I even went as far to recommend this place.

    It is clear that customer service is not a priority here and so this is one local company I will not support!!!

    Sincerely,

    YOUR pissed off customer

    Bah. Cashier doesn't know how to pack groceries. Rudely ignored request to carefully pack my pastries. She flippantly threw it in the bag with my other groceries. I had to stand aside to repack it. An elderly lady,after me, asked the same cashier if the tea she was holding was loose leaf or bagged. She had vision problem. The cashier ignored her so I answered her question. I can get same products elsewhere with better service.

    Neapolitan tasted good but the cream filling was irregularly distributed and scant. Bottom 2/3 layer was just pastry. Cookies did not taste fresh.

    * Inexpensive Persian market *

    You've just got to love when the name of a business is so direct and honest!

    North Vancouver has a nice selection of Persian food, and this mid-sized shop is one I hadn't wandered into before.  I found a large butcher section with very fresh looking meat, a Persian grocery section that had a reasonably priced wide variety of products, a deli counter with some very fresh looking products including cheeses, olives, etc.

    Perhaps the highlight is that they have very inexpensively priced Persian breads - VERY inexpensively priced.  The same ones you find at many of the other Persian markets around this part of town, but priced lower.  Not sure how they pull that off exactly.  Nifty trick though - but I wouldn't expect anything but straight shooting from a place with such a direct name!
